“After a long and hard-fought battle with COVID-19, our beloved pastor and friend, Bishop Omar Jahwar has been called home to the Lord.
Bishop was a pastor, peacemaker, community activist and violence interrupter. He worked effortlessly to heal violent rifts within our communities, reunite parents with their children and his inspired work with OGU, Urban Specialists and Heal America has improved neighborhoods and communities across our country.
Since 1998, Bishop has worked in Dallas to bridge divides between gangs and end senseless violence in local communities. He spent 23 years promoting strong families, helping to strengthen communities, and advocating for peace. He has inspired and provided solutions around the country for businesses, educational institutions and school districts, nonprofit organizations, congregations, and communities.
Bishop’s vision, strength, spirit, and power to unite anyone to heal divides was felt by all the moment he walked into a room. He could find hope in any situation. His absence is a great loss to the city of Dallas, state of Texas, America, and our Urban Specialists family.
Bishop would often tell people, ‘Only inspired people can inspire people. So, when you are feeling that exhaustion, tap into someone who is still moving.’
The Urban Specialists team is committed to honoring Bishop and his legacy through the work our fearless leader has set before us – revitalizing urban communities and ending the culture of senseless violence.
We thank you for your prayers during this extremely difficult time as we continue to grieve this unimaginable loss.”
